Clear beats Clever

I have designed 30 websites, launched 60 products. The biggest problem I had was to make myself clear. I played around with titles and the feel of words. Introducing my own language.

The feedback I often got was: “I don’t understand what you do.”

I just wasn’t clear. My big goal was to be clever. So that’s what I aimed for.

The solution to all of it is to write clear.

When people can understand you and have a feeling that you speak to them – it changes the game.

You want impact, right?

You want to change the world?

Then write clear.

Clever is not going to get you anywhere.

Clever is maybe fun for you, but it won’t have a lasting effect on others.

Get to the point.

Be clear. Use simple words.

Don’t make it complex, clever, or creative.

Make it clear.

Easy to follow you.

The other pitfall for clever is to be too detailed.

Often when you have developed a product – you are so in the details that you don’t write clear to understand.

You’re already 5 steps ahead.

It is fascinating to see how many try to be smart and with that outsmart their customer.

It’s not a race to who is smarter, more elaborate, or clever.

You are called to serve them.

That means you need to communicate in a way that connects.

Connection can only happen when you’re clear and make people feel understood.

Be clear, not clever.

Until next time!

Your Jowi

We all go through our life with struggles and hope. Dreams and pains. We all make it through our days. Then all of a sudden, something happens. We need to make a decision. It feels like our D-Day. When my son was just 2 months old, I got fired. I understood their decision. I was not the right fit. So I went home. With all that pressure on my back, my son was all happy to see me. He slept so peacefully. I was up at 2 am. What am I going to do next? I was absent, caught in my own thoughts. I…

  • Can You Compete with AI?

Hey Reader, It feels like there is a threat in the air. Now that ChatGPT is out for a few years already—and it’s constantly improving—it feels like we are in a competition we can’t win. I’ve been doing content marketing for almost 5 years. It definitely changed over the last year. There is a flood of content out there that is just generated by AI.It is getting easier to stay consistent. There is also a pattern I observe: I’m not trying to compete with AI.Since it’s a tool, I can use it well or…

  • Reflections on my Birthday – Yesterday I turned 29

Reflections on my 29th Birthday 10 years ago I made a decision. The decision was to study forestry. At the time I thought it would be the best way for me to lay the foundation for my future family. Reflecting back on that, it has been an amazing 10 years – totally not what I expected though. The biggest joy of those years has definitely been that I could marry my beautiful wife. Second to that is the birth of our son. This makes me now responsible for my family. I could also learn a lot about…

  • Success comes through Sacrifice

Hey Reader, Everything in life comes with a price tag. Not always do they have a $ (Dollar Sign) with them. Some are also connected to the cost of time. Some are decisions, either for or against. You can do many things, but you won’t be able to succeed in all. You do have many opportunities, but not the time to try them all. There is a correlation that I started to notice. The older I get, the more obvious it becomes. Every big victory comes with a price. There is no success without…

A lot more people want to start a business today. A lot of people dream about the life they are wishing to live. But only a few starts — and even fewer succeed.
