Discipline is Freedom: My Journey to Understanding and Success

As I was going through my old journals, I stumbled upon a note that read, “Discipline is freedom.” This phrase intrigued me, and I felt compelled to explore this concept further. In this post, I want to share my journey and reasoning that led me to believe that discipline truly is the key to freedom.

Chasing Freedom

We all seek freedom in various forms—freedom of time, space, and the ability to do what we want, when we want. We yearn for the freedom to travel, spend time with family, and live life on our own terms. This desire often leads us to pursue careers or start businesses that promise these freedoms. However, I’ve come to realize that these freedoms are intrinsically tied to discipline.

The Beginning of My Journey

Around six or seven years ago, I knew I wanted to have a family and provide for them. This goal led me to pursue a career that interested me and seemed financially stable. I started by studying forestry, but soon realized that it might not offer the financial security I needed. So, I pursued a master’s degree in agriculture with a focus on environmental education—another field that wasn’t exactly lucrative.

During this time, the idea of starting my own business began to take root. I believed that entrepreneurship would provide the freedom I was seeking—freedom of money, time, and the ability to do whatever I wanted. So, I turned to YouTube, searching for ways to make money online. This led me down a deep rabbit hole of research.

The Research and Dreamer Stage

I consumed everything I could find on making money online. I watched countless videos and soaked up all the knowledge I could. The message was always the same: it’s easy to make thousands of dollars a month working from anywhere in the world. The allure of a “four-hour workweek” or “two-hour workday” was strong, and I began to dream of a life of passive income and endless freedom.

Fueled by this dream, I started taking action. I set up a website, spent money on hosting and software, and began writing blog posts. I even launched a YouTube channel, convinced that I would quickly achieve the success others promised. But reality soon set in.

The Dreadful Stage

Despite my efforts, nothing seemed to work. My blog wasn’t getting visitors, my YouTube videos weren’t generating views, and I wasn’t making any money. Instead, I was spending money—on better equipment, on software, on everything I thought I needed to succeed. The freedom I sought seemed further away than ever, and I found myself on the verge of giving up.

The Deciding Stage

This is where things got interesting. I realized that the dream of instant success was just that—a dream. The reality of building something meaningful requires discipline, persistence, and hard work. Over the years, I’ve created over 200 videos and published more than 500 blog articles. Despite the slow progress, I refused to quit.

And then, things began to change. I recently experienced a breakthrough—some of my videos skyrocketed in views, going from 5,000 to 20,000 in just a few days. This success didn’t happen overnight; it was the result of years of consistent effort.

The Result: Discipline is Freedom

What I’ve learned from this journey is that discipline is the foundation of true freedom. Discipline allows you to stick with something long enough to see results. It means showing up every day, even when you don’t feel like it, and doing the work that needs to be done.

Freedom doesn’t come from chasing quick fixes or overnight success. It comes from the discipline to stay committed, to keep working, and to trust that your efforts will pay off in the end. Discipline gives you the freedom to relax, knowing you’ve done your best, and the freedom to pursue your goals with confidence.

Conclusion

I’m not where I want to be yet, but I see the path forward more clearly now. I know that if I stay disciplined and committed, I’ll continue to grow and achieve my goals. Discipline is freedom, and it’s the key to turning dreams into reality.
