Raising a Toddler… or a Business?

The other day I got to spend more time watching my son.
My wife was busy, so she asked if I would help out more.

Since I’m usually busy running our business, it was fun to be with him for longer.
I’m always amazed how much he learns and understands.
Yet some of his actions seem rather random.

As soon as we do one thing, he gets up to find a book.
No matter how much I think I know what’s going to happen —
I need to be quick on my feet.
I can plan all I want.

When he doesn’t want to do it, it won’t be easy.
At times, he is so interested, and then he can lose focus in just 30 seconds.

The more I was playing with him,
I had to think of the similarities between a toddler and starting a business.

A business is also never going 100% along your plans.
There will be surprises happening,
and trying to anticipate how it will go is also not easy.

So in some ways, we are raising two toddlers at the moment.

You will experience growing pains —
and sometimes also rebellion,
where it won’t go along the way you were all set to go down.

In all that trouble, sometimes, it is fun to see the growth.
It’s a wild journey where you don’t know what the next phase will bring.
I enjoy the fun times —
because challenges will come back up around too.

Don’t get stressed out when things don’t go your way.
Just try again tomorrow.

It is also fun, because it’s challenging.
There is always a good story to tell.

30 before 30 Now that I’m 29 years old – I’m wondering what do I want to do with my next year? What do I want to do before I turn 30? As I have been working on my business to become the Present Provider for my family – I have noticed a trend. Most people set an income goal. So have I in the last years. Now that I have a few years on my back – I realize it is better to focus on Impact. Impact over Income. It is not how much I can get out – it is how much I can give. My goal is to reach 30K…

  • In Business the winner is always the tortoise

Most people start their business as the hare.Sprinting through the tasks. I did that too — thinking the amount of work is what makes the difference. So I tried to become more efficient. I hustled all I could. The interesting twist is:The tortoise will win. That is also true in business. Business is not a sprint. It’s a life-long marathon. There is no shortcut, because it ends when we’re dead. Success will happen when you do the right things at the right time. That’s the foundation side most…

  • Avoid This Pricing Mistake Now

I sometimes click on ads. It is interesting to see how they are set up. I like to study what they do. On first sight, the ad looked good. The offer is interesting. The price is decent. I always feel the urge to double-check prices. And again: You are being charged $97 upfront and then $497 monthly. There is a price increase by 500% at the end of month one. Again, I found a sneaky price. This is why people get frustrated by online gurus. They are awesome at sales and suck at customer…

  • I Thought I Had It Figured Out, Finally….

I finally have it figured out!So I thought—when I entered the blogging space 4 years ago. It was amazingly simple. I just need to write blog posts on my website and Google will bring traffic to my page. All I need to do is sit and wait for people to rank my articles. A lot of people in the blogging space were making $4,000–$10,000 a month with 100 blog posts on their website. A lot of the income was coming from display ads they placed on their website. 90% of their traffic came from Google….

  • Don’t be too good to be true

Hey Reader, Every day I get DMs by people pitching me their service. I’m not a big fan of cold DMs or cold outreach, but there is an even bigger problem ahead. There is another inflation going around. Next to the financial inflation, there is also the offer inflation. I do enjoy most of the content by Alex Hormozi and I have both his books. There is a side effect of the $100M Offers book. Many juniors are starting out and create an offer that is “irresistible.” I agree with Alex Hormozi to…

  • Building a Business Wasn’t my 1st Dream

When I was growing up, I started to dream about my life. One idea that I also pursued was that I wanted to have a family. I knew that I wanted to get married and have kids.I wanted to provide for them and I wanted to spend my time with them. As I got older, reality started to settle in. What I was studying would maybe make some money. It would get us food on the table, but not much more. Maybe if I settled for a career in the field, a company would pay enough at some point. When I met my wife,…
