Stick to the basics

Hey Reader,

Often I feel like I could skip ahead. Like I know what it’s about and then I fast forward.

This newsletter today is an important reminder for myself as well.

When my son was a bit younger, like last year, he was trying to walk. He was practicing one step at a time.

Now, when we’re going to the park, he loves to run around.

There are situations where he is less comfortable. So he slows down.

He takes it one step at a time.

Obviously, it doesn’t always work. He falls down and gets back up.

That’s a lesson for another day.

He slows down to focus on each step again.

He is focused on the basics.

Often I feel like sprinting.

In reality, I should slow down and focus on the basics.

We try to post everywhere daily. Reach out to clients. Do so much more.

Especially in the beginning of a business, there are just so many things to do.

This is when I have to remind myself.

When I’m overwhelmed and feel the strain, I gotta slow down and stick to the basics.

Focus on taking it one step at a time.

For this, you need to understand what you’re doing. You also need to know your priorities.

For me, this means customer success first.

What can I do to help my clients succeed this moment?

Only one thing.

What is non-negotiable on my list?

For me, this is my newsletter.

It’s my personal letter to you.

So writing my newsletter is also helpful to slow down.

Take a step back. Focus on the basics.

Then take one step forward.

What’s your one thing today?

  • The Curse of Convenience

Hey Reader, I just started a new book:4000 Weeks – Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. I picked it up because after all the years of trying to beat productivity,I start to have my doubts what productivity really means. He also starts to talk about how everything is getting more convenient. I like to use AI.It gives my productivity a big advantage. It’s a major boost.I think that I actually get 20x more done than without AI.AI definitely makes my life more convenient. Yet there is…

  • From Busy to Effective with One Question

We are caught in everyday to-do lists. Some days feel like a golden cage. There are just enough urgent tasks on the list that you don’t immediately quit. I have also tried many fancy, long to-do lists. And the day had just started — and I was already chasing after it. I was running behind on every task. As soon as I deliver & finish my first activity on time. I already ran behind the rest. Even all the productivity hacks can’t help you. They are all good and well until something changes your…

  • We’ve got productivity backwards

The core idea behind productivity is well-meaning. It is to make our work more productive. That we are able to produce more. I think the core driver is to do a job better. We want to achieve bigger things and so we constantly seek to improve — from riding a horse to driving a carriage to driving a car is an improvement in speed and comfort. The driving question is to improve what we are doing. A farmer does a job better when he can produce more bushels per acre – more tons per hectare. A…

  • Fix your strategy to gain clarity

I have talked with more than 20 men in my coaching by now. They all dream to grow a business. Yet they all get stuck. They are motivated, they have their reason and are excited to start. Yet they lack the strategy. They want clients. Yet have no offer, no leads, and no conversion. In the end, they are frustrated, confused, and overwhelmed. I know how that feels. I have been there too. It sucks. When we’re in the coaching sessions, I come to bring the strategy to build an offer, get leads, and…

  • More knowledge is not the answer

I do like reading books. There is something about reading a book on the couch that is relaxing. It is a lot slower to read a book than to watch 10 YouTube videos in 2x speed. We live in an era of endless information. We can find an answer to every question in 1000 videos. Yet we keep looking for the golden shard to build our sensation. The one missing piece that will make the rest fall into place. I am also a knowledge junkie. I like to be informed before I take action. I have spent years…

  • Can You Compete with AI?

Hey Reader, It feels like there is a threat in the air. Now that ChatGPT is out for a few years already—and it’s constantly improving—it feels like we are in a competition we can’t win. I’ve been doing content marketing for almost 5 years. It definitely changed over the last year. There is a flood of content out there that is just generated by AI.It is getting easier to stay consistent. There is also a pattern I observe: I’m not trying to compete with AI.Since it’s a tool, I can use it well or…
