The Marathon No One Told Me About

Business is not a One Time Thing.
It is a lifelong journey.

Many believe that they can win in business fast.
At least when I look at their actions, they work like they are done in one year.

That’s also how I got started.
Thinking I just need to post 5 videos to YouTube and it will go viral.
Then I create one product for $100 and I’ll be rich.

Those were the three steps I thought would be what business was about.

Now 8 years later—I learned it takes a lot more to run a successful business.
The work never stops.

I was sprinting in a marathon.
I thought the goal line was at 100 yards,
when in reality it is at the end of my life.

That’s when the Father & Founder Tug-of-War started to happen.
Because guess what—
Being a Father is also not a One Time Thing.
It only begins with the birth.

Now I’ll be a father for the rest of my life.

With my mind 180% focused on my business (because I thought it would only be for a little),
I wasn’t really there for my family.

I was in the room.
I was at the dinner table.
But my mind was gone.
I was absent.

This is when I knew I had to change.

I needed to run my business, where it is a lifelong journey.
And I knew that I had to be fully present for my family as well.

That’s the beginning of the Present Provider.

  • Don’t Follow Fishermen, Follow the Fish

Hey Reader, In business, we are often tempted to jump on big trends. We often feel like we’re missing out if we don’t. Especially at the beginning, it’s hard. The question is: how do you get started? You should go where the fish are. Don’t blindly follow the advice of the fishermen. The fish is the spot, not the fishermen. The rest will follow long after. A friend and I went fishing together. When we arrived at the lake, it was often that way that others were leaving. So you just lost. Ash…

  • Do This When You’re Just Starting Out

There is only one thing that matters in business: Helping people more, better and in new ways.People want help. Become the go-to person for your people for the subject. You can be friendly. You can be nice. In the end all that it comes down to is:Is it actually working? Because people only care about results. Do you help them achieve what they want? I have also struggled to understand this point. If you’re not getting results, people will eventually leave. On the contrary, if you get them…

  • Be Relentless, Not Reckless

Starting a business is hard.It takes a lot to actually make it work.Building a business — like everything in life — has a price. I am all for doing a lot and being ambitious.Yet, I see a lot of founders/entrepreneurs being reckless. They break a lot of trust while they are not even getting started. There is a big difference between being relentless and being reckless: Reckless is uncontrolled and not directed. Relentless is about being controlled and knowing where you want to go. You can show…

  • What “passive income” misses entirely

We have so many conversations about passive income. It seems to be the holy grail for some with an online business. A high passive MRR (monthly recurring revenue) is the dream to have all freedom. You can do whatever you want to do. Yet there is an issue with it on two ends. First: there is no passive work.Second: we are made to work. In order to make money — we actually need to do something that offers help to somebody. We don’t make money — we earn it for value exchanged. Anything else…

  • Build With Leverage, Not Burnout

There is a limit to the work we can do. We all have 24 hours in a day. We might have a different energy level to start, but in the evening, our energy will be spent. The only way to do more is by building with leverage. It used to be that we needed to lift the heavy stones by hand. Then they developed the crane. Now one person could pull the rope and pull up the rock alone. We can have multiple levers. When I was younger, I rode my bike everywhere to school. There was a limit to how fast I…
