The Myth of the Perfect Idea

Hey Reader,

When I was starting out, I thought business success was in finding the perfect idea.

I was working so long on finding ideas, I was so protective over my ideas that I didn’t even share them with others.

This is one of the biggest rookie mistakes I see today.

It took me years to see that my ideas weren’t going to work out the way I had planned.

Then I took a step back, analyzed the situation, and came up with a new idea.

This time, I took the idea and shared it.

I was not trying to keep it a secret.

What happened?

I got feedback.

Someone gave me an insight that guided me on the spot because the idea spoke to a problem they had.

The number one thing starting out that you must stop doing is being too protective over your idea.

I can only share it with you after you signed my non-disclosure agreement.

What should you do instead?

Today, I work under the assumption that every business idea is a bad idea.

The main question is:

  • What would it take for me to make it work?
  • How many years do I have?
  • Am I willing to pay the price to make it work?
  • Am I willing to put in the work that is required to make it work?

If all of those are a yes, I’d get straight to sharing the idea.

Trying to find people that would be willing to test the idea with me.

If I can’t find anybody to do it for free, I start all over again.

Sharing your idea early lowers your risk.

Most people won’t be able to pull your idea off, and those that could often are further ahead with bigger things.
