The toughest question in Entrepreneurship

Hey Reader,

Since I started with developing businesses about 8 years ago now, I have seen many people come and go.
I have also tried many products, many angles, many ideas.

Most of them have failed.
That’s the truth for most businesses.

Most of the ideas don’t work out.

There is one question that repeats itself over and over again.
The harder the time is:
Do I stick with it or do I pivot?

It’s a loaded question.
You love your idea.
You poured many hours in trying to get a move on it.
Trying to get it to work.

The voice in your brain says: Stick with it a little longer.
You are so close to get it to work.
It would be silly to pivot now.

Then there is the other side.
It’s telling you that there is a better opportunity.
That you’ve wasted long enough and it’s not going to work out.
It would be silly to stick with it.

I have experienced this back and forth for all these years.

The truth is that there is no right answer until you make the decision.

When you make a decision, you may never turn back.
You need to commit 100% of effort and commitment to it.

I have a few tips to help you decide:

  • Check your reasons for following the idea.
  • Is it too hard so you want to quit?
  • Do you have FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) for another idea?

If yes — you need to stick with it for longer.

  • Have you tried everything?
  • Have you lost your fire for the idea?
  • Are you unable to learn the skills required to make it work?
  • Is the amount of work required too long for your time left?

If you said yes to those — then it’s fine to pivot.

These are just some helping ideas.

See ya tomorrow!

  • Raising a Toddler… or a Business?

The other day I got to spend more time watching my son. My wife was busy, so she asked if I would help out more. Since I’m usually busy running our business, it was fun to be with him for longer.I’m always amazed how much he learns and understands. Yet some of his actions seem rather random. As soon as we do one thing, he gets up to find a book. No matter how much I think I know what’s going to happen —I need to be quick on my feet. I can plan all I want. When he doesn’t want to do it, it…

  • There is Only One Shortcut to Success

I used to think shortcuts don’t actually exist. I was wrong. In online games, there are shortcuts. I was mostly playing free-to-play games. They had however one specific element that free-to-play games live on:a balance to pay-to-win games. There was always a slight shift.A game started as free-to-play.Over time, they started introducing more and more extrasthat you would need to pay for. These perks were something like a cheat code. You could speed through the game. The upgrades were making…

  • You Always Have a Choice

I just read a post from somebody complaining how bad his dream job is and how the system is responsible it’s so bad. This seems like it’s so acceptable today.Everything is responsible for you not thriving or getting where you want to go. The other day, I heard a young man say that he has issues with girls because of his mother. When we don’t have one person to blame, it’s so easy to just blame the system. In my humble opinion, those are weak excuses. You make everyone and everything around…

  • The One Thing My Dad Never Missed

Most kids don’t remember what you did. They do remember that you were there. Life is hard today. We have many priorities pulling on us. We have many responsibilities pulling us away from our family. Today most couples need to both get jobs. The pay in the jobs went down and financing requires both incomes to make a living. When I was growing up, I was fortunate enough for my dad to have a job that would allow us to live with one income only. My mother could stay at home.Focus all her…

  • Don’t Judge a Business by Its Social Media

It is so interesting. A lot of people judge the business by their social following. He got 100k followers—he must have a massive business! Somehow we doubt that small accounts are bigger businesses. I stopped looking at the following and started to look for the actual interaction. There is a lot to be said about the right likes. You can tell fast which small accounts don’t work — because they tell you. With bigger accounts, it’s getting harder to see the difference. The funny thing is: A lot…
